Manchester United have reportedly won the race to sign Ayden Heaven, Arsenal’s talented 18-year-old defender, with the teenage sensation set to join the Red Devils this summer.
Ayden Heaven’s Contract Situation at Arsenal
Ayden Heaven, who joined Arsenal’s youth ranks from West Ham United over five years ago, has impressed with his performances in the Gunners’ academy system. After spending the summer training with the first team, Heaven was promoted to the Under-21 squad and even made his senior debut in the Carabao Cup this season. However, the promising defender is yet to feature in a Premier League match.
Heaven is set to be out of contract with Arsenal in June, and his potential departure has attracted the interest of several top clubs, including Spanish giants Barcelona. Despite Arsenal’s attempts to secure him with a new deal and interest from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, Heaven seems set to leave on a free transfer.
Manchester United Close to Completing the Deal
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have now agreed terms to sign Heaven, with the teenager reportedly having completed his medical at Old Trafford. The formal announcement of the deal is expected in the coming days.
A Versatile Defender for United
Heaven is known for his versatility, predominantly playing as a left-footed centre-back. Standing at 6’2″ (1.89m), he possesses a physical presence that will be an asset to United’s defensive line, especially in the aerial duel. His tall frame makes him significantly taller than United’s current defender Lisandro Martinez, who stands at 5’9″ (1.75m).
While he has been primarily deployed as a central defender, Heaven has also played as a left-back in a traditional back four. His versatility makes him a potential fit for Ruben Amorim’s back-three system, as United look to reinforce their defense.
The 18-year-old could provide competition for United’s left-sided defenders and may even be considered for a wing-back role, with Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation in need of reinforcements on that side.
