Tottenham Hotspur fans have endured their fair share of disappointment over the years, but the current 2024/25 season under Ange Postecoglou is shaping up to be one of the club’s darkest chapters in Premier League history. Injuries, lackluster performances, and insufficient transfer market activity have left Spurs teetering dangerously close to their worst-ever campaign. While hope remains that Postecoglou can turn things around, their current points-per-game rate is alarmingly low, evoking memories of past struggles.

Here’s a look at Tottenham’s five worst Premier League seasons, ranked from bad to downright catastrophic.

2007/08 – 46 Points

Juande Ramos

Martin Jol’s tenure had given Spurs fans a glimpse of progress, but his dismissal early in the 2007/08 season and Juande Ramos’ arrival led to a tumultuous campaign. While Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane provided moments of brilliance, their league performances were uninspiring, finishing 11th with 46 points.
The only silver lining? Tottenham’s League Cup victory over Chelsea, their last major trophy to date.

1996/97 – 46 Points

Teddy Sheringham, Allan Nielsen

Under Gerry Francis, Spurs regressed significantly in the 1996/97 season. Despite a decent squad, they finished 10th, with a mere 46 points. A humiliating 7-1 loss to Newcastle United marked the lowest point of the campaign. The team never found consistency, failing to win more than two league games in a row.

2003/04 – 45 Points

Arsenal's L to R Jose Antonio Reyes, Rob

Tottenham’s 2003/04 season is infamous for being overshadowed by Arsenal’s “Invincibles” campaign. Spurs finished 14th with 45 points, enduring an eight-game winless run and the ultimate embarrassment of watching their rivals secure the Premier League title at White Hart Lane.

1997/98 – 44 Points

Jurgen Klinsmann

The 1997/98 campaign saw Gerry Francis resign midway through the season after a poor start, with Christian Gross stepping in. While the return of Jurgen Klinsmann briefly lifted spirits, Tottenham finished 14th, with only 44 points. Klinsmann’s nine goals provided some relief, but the team was never far from the relegation zone.

1993/94 – 40.7 Adjusted Points

Chris Hughton, Osvaldo Ardiles, Steve Perryman

Tottenham’s 1993/94 season remains their worst in Premier League history, adjusted to 40.7 points over a 38-game season. Ossie Ardiles promised an exciting brand of football, but defensive frailties plagued the team. Despite some attacking flair, Spurs struggled throughout, narrowly avoiding relegation with a win in the penultimate game of the season. Ardiles left the following year, and the club continued to search for stability.

Can Tottenham Avoid Another Disastrous Campaign?

As things stand, Tottenham’s current season has all the hallmarks of past struggles. Fans will be hoping for reinforcements and a swift turnaround under Ange Postecoglou. What do you think Spurs need to do to save their season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
