Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has opened up about the team’s recent struggles after their latest defeat to Leicester City. Despite leading 1-0 at half-time, Spurs were undone in the second half, losing 2-1 to the struggling Foxes. Son pointed to issues of concentration and sloppiness as central to Tottenham’s poor form.
Tottenham’s Troubling Run of Form
Tottenham Hotspur has had a torrid run of results in the Premier League, failing to win a match since December 15, when they triumphed over Southampton. The team has only earned five points from a possible 33 in the following matches. Sunday’s defeat to Leicester marked their sixth loss in the last seven league games, piling pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou.
Despite mounting frustrations, the club’s hierarchy has reportedly expressed confidence in Postecoglou, acknowledging the significant impact of injuries on the team’s performance.
Son Heung-min Reflects on Key Issues in the Defeat
Speaking after the painful loss to Leicester, Son Heung-min identified the lack of concentration and sloppiness as key factors behind the defeat. He made it clear that it wasn’t down to tiredness, noting that the team had just returned from halftime when the Foxes scored their equalizer and eventual winner.
“We can’t just [blame] tiredness because we had just come out for the second half. Maybe it was a little bit sloppy, it’s not individual mistakes, generally everything is just combining together,” Son explained. “It is just a lack of concentration and a bit of sloppiness, and in the Premier League table any team can punish us.”
Son also emphasized the importance of focusing on the present, blocking out external noise, and concentrating on each game and training session to turn things around.
Spurs’ Current Position and Upcoming Matches
Tottenham now sits 15th in the Premier League, just eight points above the relegation zone. With a crucial Europa League home match against Elfsborg next, followed by a London derby against Brentford, Spurs will be hoping to gain some momentum and ease the pressure on Postecoglou.
