Eintracht Frankfurt Demand “Extraordinary” Fee for Omar Marmoush
Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly set an €80M (£67M) asking price for their star forward Omar Marmoush, dealing a blow to Manchester City’s January transfer plans.
Guardiola’s January Wishlist
Pep Guardiola has emphasized the need for reinforcements as Manchester City look to turn their season around. Marmoush, who has delivered an impressive 13 goals and eight assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances this season, was identified as a key target for the Premier League champions.
Initially valued at around £40M, Frankfurt have now significantly raised their demands. Sky Sport Germany reports that any offer below £67M would be dismissed as unacceptable.
Frankfurt’s Firm Stance
Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche made it clear that the club is not eager to sell their top players during the winter transfer window.
“Our basic intention is to keep the squad together,” Krosche told Kicker. “Something extraordinary would have to happen for us to move away from this position.”
Marmoush’s Focus on Frankfurt
Despite the speculation, Marmoush has tried to downplay transfer rumors, stating, “I am living in the here and now and enjoying my time in Frankfurt.” There is no buyout clause in the Egypt international’s contract, and negotiations between City and Frankfurt are yet to commence beyond confirming interest.
Broader Transfer Strategy
In addition to Marmoush, Manchester City have expressed interest in Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala. Although a January move for Musiala is unlikely, the 21-year-old has reportedly requested a buyout clause in any future contract with Bayern, which could open the door for future negotiations.
City are also advancing talks with Palmeiras’ Vitor Reis and Lens’ Abdukodir Khusanov, two promising centre-backs, in deals worth a combined €80M.
Financial Position
Manchester City remain in a strong financial position after making a profit of nearly £100M in last summer’s transfer window. However, it is unclear if they are willing to meet Frankfurt’s steep valuation for Marmoush, a player whose track record includes just one previous season with more than five top-flight goals.
