City Eyeing Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov to Strengthen Defense
Manchester City are advancing swiftly in their efforts to sign Palmeiras teenager Vitor Reis and Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov as part of their January transfer plans. Reports suggest personal terms have already been agreed with Reis, while Khusanov remains a priority target.
Defensive Reinforcements Amid Struggles
City’s dominance in the Premier League has wavered, with six league losses between November and Christmas—more than in their last three complete campaigns combined. With an aging squad featuring nine players aged 30 or over, manager Pep Guardiola is keen to refresh his team with younger talent.
Advanced Talks for Vitor Reis
Brazilian outlet UOL has revealed that City have reached an agreement with 18-year-old Vitor Reis and his representatives, with a contract “ready” for signing. Negotiations with Palmeiras are progressing, and City aim to finalize a €40M (£33.5M) deal before competitors enter the race.
Reis, a product of Palmeiras’ illustrious academy, follows in the footsteps of talents like Endrick and Chelsea-bound Estevao Willian. City have previously worked with Palmeiras, having signed Gabriel Jesus in January 2017.
Abdukodir Khusanov Also Targeted
At 20, Abdukodir Khusanov represents another youthful addition to City’s defensive line. The Uzbekistan international joined RC Lens from Belarusian side Energetik-BGU in 2023. If signed, Khusanov would be the first player from Uzbekistan to feature in the Premier League. Valued at €40M, City are competing with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur for his signature, as reported by The Athletic.
Broader Transfer Interests
City are also linked with Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush, valued at £50M, and Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala, who has 18 months left on his contract.
This transfer window marks the final one overseen by City’s long-serving director of football Txiki Begiristain, who will hand over duties to Hugo Viana.
