Yamal Surpasses Messi’s Dribbling Feat
Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal continues to make history, this time by breaking a club record previously held by Lionel Messi.
During Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Alaves, Yamal completed 11 successful dribbles out of 21 attempts, surpassing Messi’s 10 completed dribbles from 20 attempts against Mallorca in 2007.
At just 16 years old, Yamal is already being compared to the Argentine legend, and performances like these only fuel the debate about his potential to reach similar heights.
How Does Yamal Compare to Messi at the Same Age?
Messi made his Barcelona debut at 17 years and four months old in 2004. By the time he turned 18, he had scored one goal and registered zero assists in nine appearances.
Yamal, in contrast, was handed his first-team debut at just 15 and has since become a crucial part of Barcelona’s squad. His numbers at 17 are staggering:
- 79 senior appearances
- 39 goal contributions (goals + assists)
Hansi Flick: “Lamine Yamal Is a Genius”
Following the win against Alaves, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick praised Yamal’s incredible talent:
“Lamine is a genius. What he did, in some situations, it’s unbelievable. I am very happy that he is playing for Barca. For 17 years old, he’s doing great. The opponents are strong, they defend well, they try to attack him aggressively, but he’s doing good. I love it.”
With several months left in the season, Yamal has plenty of time to further cement his place in Barcelona history.
