Olmo’s Registration Situation
Dani Olmo, alongside midfielder Pau Victor, saw his La Liga registration expire on December 31, raising concerns for Barcelona. Both players are currently without official registration due to La Liga’s rule, which prevents players from holding two licenses with the same club within a single season.
Barcelona’s Appeal to the Spanish Government
Barcelona appealed to the Spanish government and the Higher Sports Council (CSD) in an attempt to reinstate Olmo and Victor temporarily while their case is under review. Reports emerged claiming that the Spanish government had granted temporary registrations for the players, allowing them to participate in La Liga until a final decision is made.
Government Denial
However, a spokesperson for the Spanish government, Pilar Alegria, has denied these claims. Alegria confirmed that no temporary registrations have been awarded at this time, stating that the CSD is still in the process of reviewing the request.
“We are studying it,” Alegria told RNE. “In fact, I have already seen some news, some information, that it was considered a done deal. And the truth is that at this time we are still studying the request that was sent to us through FC Barcelona.
“Because, in addition, we will have to ask for objections from both La Liga and the RFEF in order to be able to give a response. We also have a deadline, we are talking about a 52-page request that also had more than 60 documents attached, so it is not a tedious job at all.
“Obviously, we will respond as soon as possible.”
Temporary Registrations Not Yet Granted
Barcelona remains hopeful that Olmo and Victor will be granted temporary registrations, allowing them to play in La Liga while the CSD continues deliberating their case. However, even if permission is temporarily granted, Barcelona will still need to succeed in court to keep Olmo and Victor registered for the rest of the season. Temporary registrations can easily be revoked should the court rule against them.
