Barcelona Monitoring Vanderson’s Progress

Barcelona is keeping close tabs on the development of Monaco’s right-back Vanderson, as per reports from Spain. While the Catalan club has been linked with a move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, it seems the 27-year-old will instead remain in the Premier League, potentially joining Aston Villa on loan.

Despite ongoing financial struggles and delays in their move back to Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco continues searching for reinforcements to bolster Hansi Flick’s squad.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Vanderson is one such target catching Deco’s attention. However, Monaco is reportedly unwilling to sell the promising 23-year-old defender.

Vanderson’s Impact at Monaco and Rising Value

Since his arrival in January 2022 for around €11m, Vanderson has played over 100 matches for Monaco and has made a name for himself on the international stage with Brazil. His impressive performances in domestic and Champions League games have significantly boosted his market value, now reportedly more than three times his initial transfer fee.

Barcelona faced Vanderson earlier this season in the league phase of the reformatted Champions League, giving them a closer look at his capabilities as a potential competitor for Jules Koundé in the right-back position.

Defensive Reinforcements Needed at Barcelona

Jules Koundé, traditionally a center-back, has been utilized as an attacking right-back under both Xavi and Flick. While he offers speed and an offensive threat, Barcelona’s defensive weaknesses have been exposed multiple times this season.

After a strong start to the 2024/25 season, Barcelona topped La Liga after 12 games. However, a string of dropped points has allowed Real Madrid to establish a four-point lead over Atletico Madrid and a six-point gap over Barcelona. Strengthening the backline has now become a top priority for Flick’s side.
