Lecce’s head coach Marco Giampaolo has provided an update on the future of highly sought-after left-back Patrick Dorgu, who has drawn significant interest from Manchester United. Despite the Red Devils’ attempts to secure the Danish international, Lecce has rejected two bids, holding firm on their €40m valuation.

Manchester United’s Pursuit of Patrick Dorgu

Manchester United is keen on signing the talented 20-year-old to bolster their left-back position. However, the Premier League club has struggled to meet Lecce’s asking price. The second bid, worth €30m (£25.3m), was also turned down, with Lecce insisting on their €40m (£33.8m) valuation.

Dorgu is believed to be open to a move to Old Trafford, but United is yet to meet the Serie A club’s demands. Should a third bid for Dorgu fail, United is reportedly considering a return for Alvaro Carreras, currently at Benfica, using an €18m (£15.2m) buy-back clause.

Marco Giampaolo Praises Dorgu’s Maturity

Despite the ongoing transfer saga, Lecce manager Marco Giampaolo has commended Dorgu for his ability to stay focused on the pitch. Giampaolo admitted that the speculation initially impacted the player but emphasized the maturity the youngster has shown in recent days.

“This week, he was good; last week, he was a bit distracted,” Giampaolo explained. “He’s 20 years old, and everyone is talking about him. The best European teams are calling for him, so it’s normal. He’s human.

“Last week, there was a drop in his attention, but recently I’ve seen him back to his best. I’ve spoken with him, and I don’t think the transfer market is upsetting him anymore.”

United Exploring Alternatives

While Dorgu remains United’s priority, Alvaro Carreras from Benfica has emerged as an alternative if negotiations with Lecce fail. Carreras, a former United academy player, has impressed in Portugal but recently stated he is in no hurry to leave Benfica, potentially complicating United’s plans.

What’s Next for Patrick Dorgu?

As speculation continues, the footballing world is keenly watching to see if Manchester United will return with an improved bid or shift focus to other targets. Dorgu’s performances and potential transfer will undoubtedly remain a major topic in the January transfer window.
