Amorim Stands by His Ambition Despite Rooney’s Criticism
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has defended his long-term ambition of winning the Premier League title, despite club legend Wayne Rooney labeling it as “naive.”
United, currently struggling in 14th place, suffered a disappointing FA Cup exit against Fulham on penalties. However, Amorim remains focused on building a team capable of dominating English football once again.
“I think it’s a little naive to say they’re looking to win the Premier League because from where they are now, they’re a long way off that,” Rooney said on BBC One.
“Getting further up the table should be their first priority before talking about titles.”
Amorim Hits Back: “Winning the Premier League Is the Ultimate Goal”

When questioned about Rooney’s remarks, Amorim did not hold back, defending his vision for the club while subtly taking aim at the former United striker.
“No, that is the goal,” Amorim asserted in his press conference.
“Being naive would be thinking we can do it immediately or that we are the best contender for next season.
But this club’s objective is always to win the Premier League, just as we did in the past with all the great legends.”
The Portuguese coach also pointed out how easy it is for pundits to make judgments from the outside.
“I was a pundit when I finished my career. I know it is really easy to comment. But I am here, coaching Manchester United at 40 years old, working to bring success back to this club.”
Can United Rebuild and Challenge for the Title?
While Manchester United’s struggles continue, Amorim’s determination signals a bold vision for the future. The question remains: Can United rise from their current state and reclaim their place among England’s elite?
