Rashford’s Motivation Behind the Move
Marcus Rashford has opened up about his decision to join Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season. The 27-year-old forward, who had not featured for United in almost two months, was drawn to Villa’s “constant ambition” and their push for Champions League success.
Speaking to VillaTV, Rashford expressed excitement about his new challenge and praised the club’s progression under Unai Emery.
“It’s an ambitious time for this club and a great opportunity for me to join the team and help them keep pushing forward. I’m excited, can’t wait for the first training session and obviously the first game,” Rashford said.
“Villa’s Ambition Was a Key Factor”
Aston Villa currently sits eighth in the Premier League, just four points away from a top-four spot. They have also reached the last 16 of the Champions League, reinforcing their status as a rising force in European football.
For Rashford, this level of ambition was a major factor in his decision:
“It’s the constant ambition that’s attractive, and it’s why you want to join such a club. You want to keep improving year on year, and that’s what the team has been doing and are doing this year.”
The England international also acknowledged the club’s strong squad and the influence of Unai Emery:
“It’s a club that’s in a good position in the league, and they’re pushing to get higher. They’re still in the Champions League, have a good, ambitious manager, and great talent in the squad.”
Rashford’s Goals for His Loan Spell
Rashford emphasized that his goal is to rediscover his best form and contribute to Villa’s success.
“I’ve had to choose somewhere where I feel my style of football is suited to, where I can help them and they can help me rediscover and improve as a player. Obviously, it’s only short-term, so I want to make the most of my time here by using my attributes and skillset to help the team.”
Before the official interview, Rashford also took to social media to thank both Manchester United and Aston Villa for making the move possible. His message was simple but powerful:
“I just want to play football.”
