Football Icons Gather to Honor Denis Law
The football world bid a final farewell to Manchester United legend Denis Law as his funeral took place at Manchester Cathedral on Tuesday.
The former United striker, who passed away last month at the age of 84, received an outpouring of tributes from football fans, former teammates, and club legends.
A Farewell Fit for a Legend

Ahead of Manchester United’s match against Brighton & Hove Albion, a special tribute replaced the usual Stone Roses walk-out music with a lone bagpiper, leading the teams onto the pitch. A week later, another tribute took place when United hosted Rangers, a club close to Law’s heart.
United Greats & Current Stars Attend the Service

A host of United legends and current players attended the ceremony to pay their respects. Sir Alex Ferguson, a close friend of Law, delivered a heartfelt speech about his extraordinary career:
“Pele was once asked if any British player could have played for Brazil, and without hesitation, he said Denis Law. That was the ultimate tribute.”
Former United stars including Alex Stepney, Bryan Robson, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, and Wayne Rooney were present, as were Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire representing the current squad. New head coach Ruben Amorim and CEO Omar Berrada also attended.
Old Trafford’s Final Goodbye

Earlier in the day, Law’s funeral procession passed Old Trafford, allowing fans to say one last goodbye to one of United’s greatest-ever players.
Law, who scored 237 goals for Manchester United, remains the club’s third-highest all-time goal scorer, behind only Sir Bobby Charlton and Wayne Rooney. He is immortalized in the “United Trinity” statue outside Old Trafford alongside Charlton and George Best—three legends who each won the Ballon d’Or while playing under Sir Matt Busby.
A Daughter’s Emotional Tribute

Denis Law’s daughter, Diana Law, delivered a touching farewell:
“There is an Englishman, an Irishman, and a Scotsman. I think of them all up there in heaven. Reunited, smiling down. Maybe they have already started a team—with Sir Matt as the manager.”
Forever a United Legend
Denis Law’s legacy will continue to inspire generations of Manchester United fans. His name, his goals, and his impact on the club will never be forgotten.
