The Reds Face Tough Challenges in the Title Race

Liverpool missed a golden opportunity to solidify their Premier League title chances after conceding a dramatic equalizer in the 98th minute of the Merseyside derby against Everton. The Reds, who were looking to bounce back from their shocking FA Cup exit against Plymouth Argyle, saw their lead over Arsenal reduced in the title race.

Despite extending their advantage at the top, a seven-point gap does not provide the comfort that a nine-point lead would have. With some tough matches ahead, Jurgen Klopp’s men must be at their best to maintain their title push.

Here are Liverpool’s next five Premier League fixtures.

Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (16/02/25)

Alexis Mac Allister

Liverpool will have little time to recover before hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield. Historically, the Reds have dominated this fixture, winning 12 of their last 14 meetings in all competitions.

The reverse fixture saw Mohamed Salah’s penalty secure a crucial victory at Molineux. Wolves, currently fighting relegation, will be desperate for points but may struggle against a Liverpool side eager to regain momentum.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool (19/02/25)

Darwin Nunez

Trips to Villa Park have become increasingly challenging under Unai Emery. Aston Villa have already beaten Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur at home this season and will be looking to add Liverpool to their list of scalps.

Liverpool, however, have enjoyed success in this fixture, winning seven of their last nine meetings against the Villans. The Reds will need to be wary of a repeat of last season’s 3-3 draw, where Villa struck twice in the final minutes.

Man City vs Liverpool (23/02/25)

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool’s visit to the Etihad Stadium is one of the most highly anticipated fixtures of the season. While Manchester City are enduring a disappointing campaign, they remain a formidable opponent.

Liverpool secured a commanding 2-0 victory in their last meeting, but winning at the Etihad has proven difficult. The Reds have not won there in the Premier League since 2015. With City’s defensive frailties exposed this season, this could be Liverpool’s best chance to break their away hoodoo.

Liverpool vs Newcastle United (26/02/25)

Darwin Nunez, Dan Burn

Liverpool and Newcastle will battle it out twice in March, including a Carabao Cup final showdown. Their upcoming Premier League clash at Anfield presents an opportunity for the Reds to assert dominance.

Newcastle have not won at Anfield since 1995 and have suffered six defeats in their last seven visits. Despite their recent resurgence, Eddie Howe’s side continues to struggle against Liverpool, though their earlier 3-3 draw this season proved they are capable of troubling the Reds.

Liverpool vs Southampton (08/03/25)

Harvey Elliott

With just one Premier League match scheduled for March due to international breaks, Liverpool will host bottom-placed Southampton in what should be a straightforward encounter.

The Saints have been the weakest side in the league, both offensively and defensively, making them a prime candidate for relegation. While Liverpool faced some resistance in their previous meetings with Southampton, Anfield should provide a comfortable setting for three more points.

Can Liverpool Maintain Their Lead at the Top?

With crucial matches against top-four contenders and struggling sides alike, Liverpool must remain focused in the coming weeks. Do you think Klopp’s men have what it takes to stay ahead in the title race?
