Injury Concerns for Liverpool as Gakpo Faces Late Fitness Test
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Cody Gakpo is a major injury doubt for their Premier League encounter with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
The Dutch forward was substituted in the Merseyside Derby against Everton after picking up a knock, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming fixture.
Gakpo’s Injury & Liverpool’s Latest Fitness Updates
Gakpo has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers this season, scoring 16 goals in 35 appearances. His potential absence would be a big blow for the Reds, who are already dealing with multiple injury setbacks.
During Friday’s press conference, Slot provided updates on the squad’s fitness:
- Trent Alexander-Arnold successfully completed 30 minutes against Everton and is expected to train normally.
- Joe Gomez & Tyler Morton remain unavailable.
- Gakpo’s fitness will be assessed before the Wolves match.
“Cody is a bit of a doubt as well. I had to take him off because of an injury. Let’s see how he is today,” said Slot.
Slot Reflects on Everton Draw & Curtis Jones’ Suspension

Liverpool were denied victory against Everton after James Tarkowski’s stoppage-time equalizer, leaving Slot frustrated with referee Michael Oliver’s decisions. The Dutchman received a red card for his protests and now awaits possible disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, Curtis Jones is suspended after receiving a post-match red card following a heated exchange with Abdoulaye Doucoure. However, Slot remains positive:
“The good thing is that we play a lot of games. He will be out for one match. I liked how he stood up for the team, but there are other ways to do that. I will talk to him.”
Despite the disappointing result, Slot believes Liverpool’s mentality has improved compared to last season:
“We were mentally much stronger than last year. We went 1-0 down and came back to lead 2-1 until the 97th minute.”
