Elliott’s Struggles in the 2024/25 Season
Harvey Elliott, the 21-year-old Liverpool midfielder, has had a challenging season so far, managing just 53 minutes of Premier League action. A broken foot sustained in September sidelined him for two months, and despite returning to fitness, he remains on the fringes of Arne Slot’s squad.
The former Fulham player was expected to build on his impressive pre-season form under Slot but has struggled for opportunities since. Elliott, however, has dismissed rumors linking him to Brighton & Hove Albion and Borussia Dortmund, instead emphasizing his desire to remain at Anfield and contribute to Liverpool’s title charge.
Elliott: “Liverpool Is My Club, My Team”
In a recent interview with The Athletic, Elliott expressed his commitment to Liverpool, saying:
“Liverpool is my club, Liverpool is my team. I want to fight for my place, fight for my position in the team. It’s down to me to put in the effort, the hard work, and the desire to achieve that. I’m not going to give up.”
The midfielder revealed that he has had constructive discussions with Arne Slot about how to earn more game time:
“It’s just friendly conversations: ‘Is there anything I need to show you to get more game time? Is there anything I need to work on specifically?’ We have had those conversations.”
Elliott acknowledged that other squad members are in a similar position but remains determined to seize his chance when it arises.
Improving Physicality and Pressing Game
Reflecting on areas for improvement, Elliott highlighted the need to enhance his physicality and pressing ability to fit into Slot’s high-intensity system.
“We have players like Darwin (Núñez) and Curtis (Jones), who are unbelievable at constantly pressing and running around. I need to get into a rhythm of doing it effectively, not just for the sake of it.”
Despite the setbacks, Elliott is eager to help Liverpool maintain their position at the top of the Premier League, demonstrating his dedication to both the team and the club’s long-term success.
