Barcelona Receives Temporary Registration for Olmo and Victor

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick shared insights into the squad’s joyous reaction to the news of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor’s temporary registration for the second half of the season. The announcement came en route to the Supercopa de Espana semi-final against Athletic Club in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Registration Drama: A Last-Minute Appeal

The saga began when La Liga and the RFEF initially blocked the re-registration of Olmo and Victor after their short-term deals expired on December 31. Following an unsuccessful local court appeal, Barcelona lodged a last-ditch plea with Spain’s national sports council (CSD). The council granted temporary registration, allowing the players to feature until a final verdict is reached.

Flick’s Comments on the Squad’s Morale

Speaking after Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Athletic Club, Flick revealed the impact of the news on the team:
“The news arrived on the bus; you should have seen how it was received. We are a team, and we wanted to win for Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, but also for ourselves. It was a good sign before the game,” Flick stated.

Olmo and Victor, who were previously ineligible for matches against Barbastro and Athletic Club, can now join the squad for Sunday’s Supercopa final.

Dani Olmo’s Commitment to Barcelona

Particular concern had surrounded Dani Olmo, a €60m summer signing. Despite having the right to terminate his contract and leave as a free agent, Olmo showed unwavering commitment to Barcelona, avoiding a potential financial and contractual nightmare for the club.

RFEF’s Diplomatic Reaction

RFEF president Rafael Louzan addressed the CSD decision diplomatically:
“This decision affects two players and a great club like Barcelona. We must respect the decisions of an institution like the CSD. When we fully understand the communicated details, we will make an assessment.”

Future Implications

While Barcelona celebrates this temporary solution, the final decision on Olmo and Victor’s long-term eligibility remains pending. Meanwhile, their availability for the upcoming Supercopa final provides a significant boost to the team’s aspirations.
