Temporary Approval Granted for Dani Olmo and Pau Victor

Barcelona has secured temporary permission from Spain’s national sports council (CSD) to re-register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the season. This comes after La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) initially rejected the club’s attempts to finalize their registration.

Challenges in Registration Amid Financial Constraints

Barcelona initially managed to comply with La Liga’s strict salary regulations earlier in the season, using a loophole related to Andreas Christensen’s injury absence. However, this workaround was only temporary. The registrations for Olmo and Victor expired on 31 December 2024, creating significant challenges.

The club reportedly raised €100 million by selling VIP boxes in the partially refurbished Camp Nou to address financial issues. However, delayed paperwork prevented them from fully resolving the situation, leaving Olmo and Victor unable to play.

Legal Battles Lead to Temporary Registration

Players cannot be registered twice by the same club in a single season, which initially seemed to leave Barcelona without options. After a failed local court challenge, the club appealed to the CSD, which granted a provisional license allowing the players to return to action until a final decision is made.

The CSD’s official statement clarified:
“This measure, which is provisional until the appeal filed by the club and the aforementioned players is finally resolved, suspends [La Liga and RFEF’s decision], and the cancellation of the sports licenses of the aforementioned players. It also maintains the validity of said licences until this appeal is finally resolved.”

Dani Olmo’s Loyalty Prevents Potential Contract Termination

Dani Olmo, signed for €60 million last summer, showed remarkable loyalty during this period. He could have legally terminated his contract, claimed its full value, and moved on as a free agent. However, his patience allowed Barcelona the chance to resolve the matter.

Looking Ahead

While the decision is not permanent, Barcelona’s ability to temporarily field Olmo and Victor is a vital win for the club as they await the final verdict.
