Chelsea Striker Crisis: Jackson Out for Weeks
Chelsea’s attacking options have taken a major hit as Nicolas Jackson is set to be sidelined for several weeks with a hamstring injury. This comes as a big concern for manager Enzo Maresca, especially with Marc Guiu also unavailable due to injury.
How Long Will Jackson Be Out?
A scan has revealed that Jackson’s hamstring injury, sustained against West Ham United earlier this month, is more severe than initially thought. The Senegal international will be out until after the March international break, meaning he could miss crucial games against:
- Brighton & Hove Albion
- Aston Villa
- Southampton
- Leicester City
- Arsenal
Jackson, who is Chelsea’s second-highest Premier League goalscorer this season behind Cole Palmer, also won’t be available for the UEFA Conference League last-16 ties in March.
Who Will Lead Chelsea’s Attack?
With Jackson and Guiu out, Chelsea currently lack a natural striker. This opens the door for:
1. Christopher Nkunku
The Frenchman, who has been used off the bench in a central role, could become Chelsea’s main forward. Despite limited game time, Nkunku has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season.
2. Deivid Washington
The 19-year-old Brazilian was expected to leave on loan in January but stayed at Stamford Bridge. He could now be given a chance to impress.
3. Shim Mheuka
At just 17 years old, Mheuka is one of Chelsea’s most promising academy talents. He could see minutes if Maresca opts to test youth options.
What Next for Chelsea?
Chelsea were linked with Dusan Vlahovic and Benjamin Sesko in January but failed to secure a new striker. The lack of a reliable No.9 could impact their fight for a European spot and their chances in the Conference League.
