Chelsea’s Injury Woes Easing Before Crucial Copenhagen Clash
Chelsea have received a significant injury boost ahead of their UEFA Conference League last-16 tie against FC Copenhagen on Thursday. Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that both Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah are fit and available, while Romeo Lavia has also returned to training.
Chelsea’s Struggles with Injuries
The Blues have faced a tough spell with injuries in recent weeks. Maresca has been unable to name a recognized striker for over a month due to Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu suffering simultaneous fitness issues. Defensive concerns have also plagued the squad, with Chalobah nursing a back problem and Badiashile sidelined since December.
However, Maresca provided an optimistic update:
“Both ready,” he confirmed. “Trev, fortunately, did not have a serious issue. Ben is back and has trained well in recent weeks.”
Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia Return

Long-term absentee Wesley Fofana made his return to the squad during Chelsea’s victory over Southampton, but he will not feature in the Conference League knockout rounds as he was not registered in the European squad. Similarly, Romeo Lavia has returned to training but remains ineligible for the upcoming fixture.
Maresca shared his thoughts on the situation:
“Wes is not in the squad but is back. Romeo has started training with us, and slowly, we are getting players back. This is crucial for the final push of the season.”
Goalkeeping Selection: Robert Sanchez Over Filip Jorgensen
In a notable decision, Maresca confirmed that Robert Sanchez will start in goal ahead of Filip Jorgensen for the Conference League tie. Despite being demoted in the Premier League, Sanchez retains the manager’s trust in European competition.
“From now on, all Conference League and Premier League games are important. We will take them one by one and try to win as many games as possible,” Maresca stated.
With key players returning and Chelsea looking to advance in Europe, fans will be eager to see how the squad performs against FC Copenhagen. Can the Blues capitalize on this positive injury update and make a deep run in the competition?
