• Carney Chukwuemeka struggles for game time at Chelsea

• Available for loan or permanent sale

• Chukwuemeka not the only Chelsea midfielder on the move

Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has garnered interest from Borussia Dortmund as his future at Stamford Bridge becomes increasingly uncertain.

Chukwuemeka made a high-profile move from boyhood club Aston Villa during Chelsea’s extravagant summer spending spree in 2022, joining for a reported £20m. However, the 21-year-old has struggled for game time, featuring in only five senior matches over the past two-and-a-half years.

Injuries and stiff competition for places have contributed to his limited involvement. Despite a promising start under Mauricio Pochettino in August 2023, which saw him score his first Chelsea goal against West Ham, a severe knee injury kept him sidelined. Since then, he has not made a single Premier League appearance under Enzo Maresca.

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly “closely monitoring” Chukwuemeka’s situation, with Sky Sport Germany suggesting a potential move this January window.

West Ham United’s Interest and Chelsea’s Transfer Plans

West Ham United have previously shown interest in Chukwuemeka, along with teammate Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Chelsea have set a £40m price tag on Chukwuemeka, though they are reportedly open to a loan move this winter with the option for a permanent transfer in the summer.

Chukwuemeka isn’t the only Chelsea player potentially leaving this January. Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei is also drawing interest, with Torino linked, but Napoli are reportedly entering the fray after Antonio Conte’s side expressed interest, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Cesare Casadei’s Situation

Much like Chukwuemeka, Casadei has yet to see any Premier League action under Maresca this season. Having spent the first half of last season on loan at Leicester City, the 21-year-old has failed to convince Maresca of his abilities, adding to his frustration.

Conclusion

Both Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei could be on the move this January, with Borussia Dortmund and Napoli showing strong interest in the pair. Chelsea remains open to loan deals with permanent options, as they aim to offload young talent struggling for game time.
