Barcelona in Trouble? La Liga Challenges Dani Olmo’s Registration

The controversy surrounding Dani Olmo’s registration at Barcelona has taken another turn, with La Liga president Javier Tebas confirming that the league is actively working to overturn the midfielder’s emergency licence.

Barcelona initially failed to register Olmo before December 31, leading to La Liga’s rejection of their re-registration attempts. However, after government intervention, the Spanish midfielder was granted a temporary three-month licence, sparking outrage among rival clubs.

La Liga vs. Barcelona: The Battle Over Olmo

Tebas has made it clear that La Liga opposes Olmo’s registration and is pursuing legal avenues to revoke his licence.

“We are against his registration and we are giving the relevant resources to the necessary organisation,” Tebas stated. “We ask that he not be registered, logically.”

Several La Liga clubs have officially protested the decision, arguing that Barcelona received unfair treatment. Tebas himself admitted that these clubs “are right”, insisting that the government’s involvement goes against league regulations.

What Happens If Olmo Is Deregistered?

Despite the ongoing legal battle, Tebas acknowledged that Barcelona’s matches with Olmo in the squad will remain valid even if his registration is later revoked.

“In the field of sports law, when a player has a licence, and at this moment Dani Olmo has a licence to play, a match cannot be challenged, even if they may later rule in our favour.”

This means that Barcelona’s results won’t be overturned, but the club could face further financial or legal penalties if La Liga wins its case.

What’s Next for Barcelona?

With financial issues already limiting Barcelona’s transfer flexibility, the Olmo saga adds another layer of uncertainty. If the legal challenge is successful, the midfielder could be forced to stop playing until a new agreement is reached.
