Barcelona are actively planning for life after Robert Lewandowski, with Alexander Isak emerging as a top candidate to fill the legendary striker’s shoes.

Lewandowski’s Continued Brilliance

Despite approaching his 37th birthday at the end of the 2024/25 season, Robert Lewandowski continues to perform at an elite level. The Polish forward has scored 25 goals this season—16 in La Liga and nine in other competitions—putting him on par with his previous campaign’s tally.

Lewandowski’s consistent brilliance highlights his fitness and skill, but Barcelona recognizes the need for a long-term successor to maintain their attacking dominance.

Alexander Isak: The Leading Candidate

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak has been identified as a prime target for Barcelona. The Swedish striker, who joined Newcastle in 2022 for a club-record £63 million, has been in stellar form. Despite a toe injury derailing the start of his season, Isak has scored in seven consecutive Premier League matches, averaging a goal every 113 minutes.

Barcelona’s interest in Isak stems from his ability to lead the line effectively and his potential to grow into a world-class forward. However, Newcastle is determined to keep Isak, aiming to secure his services with a new contract, especially if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Other Barcelona Targets

Barcelona’s scouting network isn’t limited to Isak. Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres is another striker on their radar, though his price tag may pose a challenge due to the club’s ongoing financial struggles.

Additionally, Barcelona is exploring options for a left winger capable of cutting inside. Potential targets include:

  • Marcus Rashford (Manchester United): Linked with a move away from Old Trafford in January.
  • Nico Williams (Athletic Club): A dream signing, though previous attempts to sign him failed.
  • Luis Diaz (Liverpool): A dynamic option on the left flank.
  • Rafael Leão (AC Milan): A versatile forward with proven quality.

Financial Hurdles

Barcelona’s financial constraints remain a significant obstacle in their transfer plans. The club will need to carefully balance its priorities and spending to secure these high-profile targets.
