Catalans Shift Transfer Priorities Ahead of Summer Window

  • Nico Williams no longer a primary target for Barcelona.
  • Luis Diaz and Rafael Leao emerge as key attacking options.
  • Barça also exploring striker options with Robert Lewandowski aging.

Barcelona Step Back from Nico Williams Pursuit

Barcelona have decided not to reignite their pursuit of Nico Williams, despite previously showing strong interest in the Athletic Club winger. Reports from Mundo Deportivo indicate that the 22-year-old is no longer a priority for the Catalan giants, who are now focusing on other attacking options.

Williams had a breakout 2023/24 season, tallying 27 goal contributions across all competitions and playing a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph. However, his current form has dipped, with only one goal and four assists in 20 La Liga appearances this season.

Additionally, Barcelona’s strained relationship with Athletic Club and complications related to the Negreira case have further diminished the chances of a transfer.

Barcelona’s New Targets: Luis Diaz & Rafael Leao

Luis Diaz

With their financial situation improving, Barcelona are actively seeking a versatile left-winger who can also play as a false nine when required.

  • Luis Diaz – The Liverpool winger has impressed with his adaptability, even shifting into a central role to accommodate Cody Gakpo. Reports suggest he is Barcelona’s most preferred option.
  • Rafael Leao – The AC Milan forward has been linked with a move to Camp Nou for months, and remains under consideration.

Barcelona had previously considered Marcus Rashford in January, but financial constraints prevented any move at the time.

Striker Search Continues: Who Will Replace Lewandowski?

With Robert Lewandowski turning 37 in August, Barcelona are also looking for a long-term number nine. Several options are on the table:

  • Jonathan David – Set to become a free agent, making him a financially viable choice.
  • Viktor Gyokeres – Sporting CP’s prolific striker, but comes with a €100m price tag.
  • Alexander Isak – Another €100m-rated forward, currently starring for Newcastle United.

Who Should Barcelona Sign?

With multiple attacking options on the radar, Barcelona must decide who best fits their system and budget. Should they invest in a world-class winger like Diaz or Leao, or prioritize a true striker for the post-Lewandowski era?
