Aston Villa booked their place in the FA Cup fifth round with a solid 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Goals from Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rogers sealed the win, while Spurs’ late fightback through Mathys Tel wasn’t enough to avoid another cup disappointment.

Jacob Ramsey & Morgan Rogers Lead the Charge

Unai Emery’s side wasted no time asserting their dominance, taking the lead in the opening minutes. A seemingly routine shot from Jacob Ramsey slipped through the hands of Tottenham’s young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, putting Villa ahead early. Despite Kinsky redeeming himself with a series of saves, the error gave Villa the upper hand.

Spurs responded with a promising chance, as Son Heung-min came close following a pinpoint cross from teenager Mikey Moore, but Emiliano Martinez pulled off a crucial stop to deny the equalizer.

Villa, backed by their home crowd, continued to press, with Leon Bailey, Morgan Rogers, and Donyell Malen constantly testing Spurs’ defense. Kinsky made a spectacular save to deny Ramsey his second, but the pressure finally paid off when Morgan Rogers struck in the second half, pouncing on a failed clearance to double Villa’s lead.

Mathys Tel’s Late Goal Not Enough for Spurs

Ange Postecoglou made changes, introducing Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr to turn the game around, but Tottenham struggled to create meaningful chances.

A glimmer of hope arrived in the dying moments when Mathys Tel, making his first start for the club, guided Dejan Kulusevski’s cross into the far bottom corner. However, the late goal wasn’t enough to prevent Spurs from crashing out of yet another domestic cup competition, leaving them with only the Europa League as their remaining trophy hope this season.
