As the January transfer window enters its final stretch, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reiterated the club’s intention to sign a new striker. Injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have left the Gunners short on attacking options, sparking an urgent search for reinforcements.
Arteta Acknowledges Arsenal’s Injury Crisis
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arteta highlighted the challenges caused by Saka’s three-month absence due to a hamstring injury and Gabriel Jesus’ ACL tear.
“My opinion is clear, we lost two very important players in Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, so we lack goals, we lack people, we lack options in the front line, it’s clear,” Arteta stated.
“If we can get the right player, that’s what we’re actively looking at. Someone that makes us better and has an impact on the team. We need some help, we’re very short already but the team is coping. We have to do what is right for the club.”
Benjamin Sesko Rumors Denied by RB Leipzig
One of Arsenal’s rumored targets, RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, has been at the center of speculation, but Leipzig has firmly denied any possibility of a move this January.
Leipzig’s managing director for sport, Marcel Schafer, addressed the rumors:
“There is definitely no contact with any other club or any discussions regarding Benjamin Sesko. We are very happy to have Benji in our squad. He is one of the top attacking talents in Europe and is currently in excellent form. He will continue to wear the RB Leipzig jersey.”
This statement aligns with comments made by Leipzig manager Marco Rose, who also emphasized the club’s commitment to keeping Sesko.
Alternative Options for Arsenal
While Sesko appears to be off the table, Arsenal continues to be linked with other targets. Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and Wolves’ Matheus Cunha have been named as potential options. However, Arteta has ruled out any domestic loan recalls, confirming the club is not considering canceling current loans for players like Neto or Raheem Sterling.
What’s Next for Arsenal?
With only days remaining in the transfer window, the pressure is on for Arsenal to secure the right deal. Will Arteta and the Gunners manage to strengthen their squad in time?
