Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has reaffirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is “fully committed” to the club, despite growing interest from Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is believed to be Madrid’s top defensive target following an injury to their right-back Dani Carvajal. While Real Madrid had initially planned to pursue the England international in the summer on a free transfer, they made a move this week to explore the possibility of securing him in January. However, Liverpool swiftly rejected the approach, making it clear that they are not willing to part ways with their vice-captain mid-season.
Slot Addresses Transfer Talk
During a press conference on Friday ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming match against Manchester United, Slot refused to delve further into the rumors but emphasized Alexander-Arnold’s unwavering dedication to Liverpool.
“If it would destabilise players at Liverpool if other people talk about them, then we would really have a problem,” Slot said. “If you play at one of the biggest clubs in the world, everyone for 12 months long is talking about you, sometimes in relation to other clubs. That happens so many times for our players that if that destabilises them, then we really would have had a problem not only now, but also in the past six months.”
Alexander-Arnold’s Focus and Commitment
When asked whether he could definitively rule out a January departure for the right-back, Slot confirmed: “I can tell you that he’s playing on Sunday. I think everybody saw how great of a first half of the season he had, how much he is here, how much he wants to win here.”
Slot praised Alexander-Arnold’s recent performances, particularly his contribution in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham, where the full-back provided an exceptional assist for Mohamed Salah’s second goal.
“I see him on the training ground every day, working his a— off, so he’s fully committed to us,” Slot concluded.
