  • Ferguson remains a prominent figure at Old Trafford as a director.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed that he maintains regular contact with club legend Sir Alex Ferguson as he navigates a challenging start to his tenure at Old Trafford.

Ferguson, who retired in 2013 after securing his 13th Premier League title, remains an influential figure at the club. Now aged 83, the iconic manager still attends matches regularly and serves as a director, even after his ambassadorial salary was reduced due to cost-cutting measures.

Seeking Guidance from a Legend

Amorim, who turns 40 soon, is still in the early stages of his managerial career. Aware of the immense legacy he has stepped into, the Portuguese tactician has made it a priority to seek Ferguson’s wisdom:

“I speak with Sir Alex several times. I try to call him to keep being positive,” Amorim shared in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live.
“It’s really good because I feel the history of the club, but it’s really hard. They did such a good job, and it’s difficult to be the guy leading the team at this moment. But we have to believe.”

Facing Harsh Realities

Amorim was candid when addressing United’s struggles, particularly following their 3-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion. He openly admitted the team might be at its lowest point in the club’s 147-year history:

“It’s really hard to adapt my system mid-season, especially with limited time to train. But I believe in my principles, and we will keep working to improve.”

The current poor form has raised questions, with Manchester United sitting far from their expected standards. Amorim remains committed to implementing his philosophy, even as the team struggles to adapt.

Ferguson’s Continued Presence

Despite retiring nearly 12 years ago, Ferguson’s presence continues to inspire those at Old Trafford. His history-making reign from 1986 to 2013 remains the benchmark for every manager who follows. Amorim, the sixth permanent appointment since Ferguson’s departure, is determined to rise to the challenge with the legendary manager’s guidance.
