• Arsenal and Manchester City are eyeing Rosenborg’s Sverre Nypan
• The 18-year-old has drawn comparisons to compatriot Martin Odegaard
• Nypan could be available for a modest fee of £10-11m in January

Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly in pursuit of Rosenborg’s rising star Sverre Nypan, a teenage midfielder hailed as Norway’s next big talent.

Nypan, often likened to Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, has impressed since making his top-flight debut for Rosenborg at just 15 years old in 2022. While he has yet to join Odegaard in Norway’s senior national team, the young playmaker has already earned caps at the under-21 level and celebrated his 18th birthday in December.

The midfielder enjoyed a standout 2024 season, contributing eight goals and seven assists in the Norwegian top flight. His performances earned him the title of Best Young Player in the league and solidified his reputation as one of the country’s brightest prospects.

Arsenal and City Circle for a January Deal

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are keen on bringing Nypan to North London, while Norwegian outlet TV2 reports Manchester City are also monitoring his situation. Both clubs could secure his services for a relatively modest fee, with Rosenborg valuing their starlet at around £10-11m.

Interest in Nypan isn’t new; he has been on the radar of Europe’s elite ever since his debut. Clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly courted him in the past, but the teenager chose to stay in Norway to continue his development.

Speaking to TV2, Rosenborg’s sporting director Mikael Dorsin hinted at an imminent transfer. “We’re happy to have Sverre here as long as possible, but we understand the interest. He’s an exceptional talent,” Dorsin admitted.

Arsenal & City’s Midfield Strategies

Arsenal are also planning a summer move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, a £51m target with a more defensive skill set than Nypan. Meanwhile, Manchester City are exploring options to strengthen their midfield in January, including a potential bid for former player Douglas Luiz, who is currently at Juventus.

Unlike these more experienced and defensive players, Nypan offers a dynamic, attacking presence in midfield. His potential arrival could represent a long-term investment for either club as they look to secure one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
