  • Havertz criticized for key misses in back-to-back defeats.
  • Arsenal struggles to score from open play intensify scrutiny.
  • Arteta voices unwavering support for the German forward.

Mikel Arteta has reaffirmed his support for Kai Havertz after the German striker endured a difficult week, missing crucial chances in two pivotal matches for Arsenal.

Havertz spurned a free header in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United during the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. Days later, he missed another big opportunity in the FA Cup clash against Manchester United, where the Gunners were ultimately eliminated on penalties.

With Arsenal’s inability to consistently score from open play under scrutiny, Havertz’s role as the starting striker—particularly in the absence of Gabriel Jesus—has drawn criticism from fans.

Arteta Stands Firm Behind Havertz

Despite the growing doubts, Arteta remains steadfast in his belief in Havertz and the team.

Asked about his message to the German forward following the loss to United, Arteta said:
“To him and to all of them: that I love them, that we all love them. Individually and collectively, they are a joy.

“What this team produces every three days is incredible regardless of what happens. I am not going to lose sight of that because of a result or two. What we can do better, let’s try to do it, but it’s difficult to achieve—it’s an emotional part, it’s something related to confidence as well.”

January Transfer Window Plans

Arteta was also pressed on whether Arsenal might enter the transfer market to strengthen their attacking options. The manager, however, downplayed such speculation, reiterating his focus on the current squad.

“I understand that [question], but I cannot love our players more, and we very much focus on the players we have to perform at the highest level,” he stated. “The rest is not in our hands, not in my hands.”
