Match Report

Newcastle United booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round with a 3-1 victory over League Two side Bromley at St James’ Park on Sunday. However, the Premier League outfit had to recover from a surprising early scare.

Eddie Howe’s men, enjoying strong form in both domestic and European competitions, were expected to cruise past their lower-league opposition. But it was Bromley who stunned the home crowd when Cameron Congreve curled a long-range effort past Martin Dubravka in the opening minutes.

Newcastle didn’t take long to respond. Lewis Miley, making a rare start after returning from a long-term injury, smashed home a thunderous equalizer to restore parity.

The Magpies dominated possession throughout the first half, holding an astounding 86% of the ball, but Bromley’s resilience kept the score level heading into the break.

Second Half Turnaround

Eddie Howe wasted no time in the second half, introducing Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes to inject energy and quality into his side. The changes paid immediate dividends as Gordon coolly slotted home a penalty just three minutes after the restart to give Newcastle the lead.

William Osula, making a rare appearance since his summer arrival, sealed the win with a spectacular strike – his first goal for the club. With the game comfortably in hand, Howe handed a debut to 17-year-old Trevan Sanusi, who came on in the 69th minute.

The Magpies controlled the closing stages without any major issues, comfortably seeing out their two-goal advantage to progress to the next round.
