  • Jorginho linked with a January transfer due to limited minutes at Arsenal.
  • The Italy international has only six months left on his contract.
  • Brazilian clubs Palmeiras and Flamengo reportedly interested in the 33-year-old.

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is reportedly exploring a move away from the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window due to frustrations over his limited game time this season.

The 33-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea for £12 million in January 2023, has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under Mikel Arteta. With just nine starts across all competitions this season, the experienced Italy international has grown increasingly unsettled, especially as his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Interest from Brazil

According to ESPN, Jorginho’s representatives have initiated discussions with Arsenal about a potential transfer, with Palmeiras and Flamengo emerging as likely destinations. The Brazilian clubs are appealing options for Jorginho, who was born in Brazil before representing Italy at the international level, earning 57 caps for the Azzurri.

A January exit could also benefit Arsenal, who may prefer to cash in on Jorginho now rather than lose him on a free transfer in the summer. Any funds from his sale could be reinvested to strengthen the squad during a crucial stage of the season.

Arsenal’s Midfield Dilemma

The Gunners are currently in the hunt for the Premier League title but trail leaders Liverpool by six points. Creativity and attacking flair have been in short supply for Arsenal in recent weeks, with the long-term absence of Bukayo Saka further exacerbating these issues.

When asked about potential January reinforcements, Mikel Arteta acknowledged the limitations of his current squad while emphasizing the need for quality over quantity in any new signings.

“We are very aware because we have certain squad limitations and a lot of gaps to cover to become the team that we want. Bringing in bodies doesn’t help at all. It has to be someone who can immediately impact performance,” Arteta said.

Jorginho’s potential departure could free up resources for Arsenal to pursue a more dynamic and creative midfielder, addressing the team’s pressing need for attacking inspiration.
