The UEFA Champions League has reached its thrilling knockout stages, and after the first leg of the last 16 ties, Opta’s supercomputer has updated its predictions for the likely winner of Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
With Liverpool, Barcelona, and Inter among the favorites, let’s dive into the latest probabilities and see which team has the best chance of lifting the trophy at Wembley.
Liverpool Lead the Pack
Liverpool emerged as the biggest winners from the first-leg ties, securing a crucial 1-0 away victory against Paris Saint-Germain. This result has propelled them to the top of Opta’s rankings, with a 26% chance of winning the Champions League. However, they must first overcome PSG at Anfield in what promises to be a high-stakes second leg.
PSG, meanwhile, have seen their chances of winning the tournament plummet to just 3.1% after the narrow defeat, leaving them with a mountain to climb in England.
Barcelona Close Behind
Barcelona also impressed in their first-leg clash, securing a hard-fought 1-0 win against Benfica despite going down to ten men. With a 17.3% chance of winning the title, the Catalan giants are considered Liverpool’s biggest challengers.
Benfica, on the other hand, are left with just a 0.5% probability of claiming an unlikely European crown.
Inter & Arsenal in the Hunt

Arsenal, who demolished PSV Eindhoven 7-1 on aggregate, have been given a 13.8% chance of securing their first-ever Champions League title. Mikel Arteta’s side look poised for a deep run in the competition.
Real Madrid & Bayern Munich Still in the Mix
Real Madrid, the tournament’s most successful club, remain a strong contender with a 9.2% probability of winning their 15th European title. Their 2-1 first-leg victory over Atletico Madrid puts them in the driver’s seat, although Diego Simeone’s men (2.2%) are still in with a fighting chance.
Bayern Munich, who dominated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0, currently have an 8% chance of reclaiming European glory. Their commanding performance has almost ended Leverkusen’s hopes, with Xabi Alonso’s side now given a mere 0.6% chance.
Other Contenders & Outsiders
Aston Villa produced a solid 3-1 win over Club Brugge but still face an uphill battle, with just a 1.6% probability of winning their second-ever European Cup.
Lille (1.5%) remain an outside contender, while Borussia Dortmund and Benfica share a slim 0.5% chance each. Club Brugge and Feyenoord (0.1%) have little hope, and PSV’s dream is officially over with 0% probability.
