Heated Madrid Derby Sees Diaz Fire Back at Atletico Boss

Real Madrid secured a crucial 2-1 victory over city rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night, with Brahim Diaz playing the role of the match-winner. However, the drama did not end with his goal, as cameras caught the midfielder directing a pointed message toward Atletico boss Diego Simeone.

Diaz’s Message to Simeone: “Speak Now!”

Rodrygo got Los Blancos off to a flying start, scoring within four minutes with a stunning left-footed strike. Atletico responded before halftime through Julian Alvarez, leveling the match with a well-placed effort. But Diaz had the final say, weaving through Atletico’s defense to slot home the decisive goal early in the second half.

After celebrating with the home fans and embracing Carlo Ancelotti, Diaz turned to the Atletico dugout, shouting, “Speak now! Yesterday you spoke, speak now!” as reported by Movistar+ and MARCA.

While Diaz didn’t explain his fiery reaction, his outburst appeared to be in response to Simeone’s pre-match comments. When discussing Madrid’s lineup options in the absence of the suspended Jude Bellingham, Simeone had downplayed Diaz’s chances of starting.

“They will try to compensate, I imagine, with [Eduardo] Camavinga in that position alongside [Luka] Modric and [Aurelien] Tchouameni. There is also the possibility of Brahim, but I don’t think so.”

Contrary to Simeone’s expectations, Ancelotti deployed Diaz in an attacking quartet alongside Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior, and Kylian Mbappe.

Simeone Admits Diaz’s Goal Was the “Most Painful”

Atletico Madrid had been gaining control of the match when Diaz struck, leaving Simeone frustrated.

“We were controlling the game better, and the feeling was good,” the Atletico coach admitted.

Despite the victory, Diaz remained focused on the return leg at the Metropolitano.

“Playing here is incredible, but when you wear this shirt, you have to give it your all,” he said. “The goal was good, but this is not over. Everything is still open. In the return leg, you have to give your all—this is the Champions League, and every little thing makes the difference.”

Can Atletico Respond in the Second Leg?

With Real Madrid taking an advantage into the second leg, Atletico must find a way to respond on their home turf. Will Simeone’s men turn the tables, or will Diaz and Madrid complete the job?
