Brazilian Winger Enjoying Life in Spain After Difficult Old Trafford Stint
Antony, who left Manchester United in the January transfer window to join Real Betis on loan, is rediscovering his form in La Liga. The 24-year-old winger scored in Betis’ 3-0 Conference League victory over Gent, marking his second goal in three games.
Following the match, Antony made a telling remark about his improved performances in Spain:
“When you are happy, everything comes naturally. My head, my heart, told me that I was going to be happy here.”
His words strongly suggest that his time at Manchester United was far from a positive experience, which may have contributed to his struggles on the pitch.
Antony’s Decline at Manchester United

Antony’s time at Old Trafford started promisingly, with three goals in his first three Premier League games after arriving from Ajax in an £80m deal. However, his output dramatically declined, with just two more goals in his next 59 appearances.
Since the start of the 2023/24 season, he managed only four goals in 52 matches across all competitions, leading to his loan move to Betis.
Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has given Antony a fresh start, and the Brazilian is already showing signs of revitalization.
Real Betis CEO Opens Door to Permanent Move
With Antony thriving, Real Betis CEO Ramon Alarcon hinted at a possible permanent transfer:
“The other day, the CEO of United called me. We send them all of Antony’s movements and details throughout the week so they can see we are looking after their asset.”
“There is very good chemistry with Manchester United and with the player. It is a possibility that he will continue next season, why not?”
A deal would require negotiations over a transfer fee, but Manchester United will likely have to accept a major loss on their £80m investment.
Can Antony Revive His Career in Spain?
With his confidence restored and regular game time at Real Betis, Antony seems to be heading in the right direction. But will his improved form be enough for a permanent move, or could he still return to Manchester United?
