- Manchester United defeated Arsenal to set up a fourth-round tie with Leicester
- Liverpool will face giant killers Plymouth from the third round
- An all-Premier League affair between Brighton and Chelsea
This year’s FA Cup third round may not have been littered with shocks, but that only raises the stakes for the next set of fixtures.
Liverpool and Chelsea both comfortably dispatched League Two opposition, while Manchester City thrashed Salford City with an 8-0 victory at home. Tottenham Hotspur eventually overcame non-league Tamworth with three goals in extra time after a nervy, scoreless opening 90 minutes.
However, top-flight Brentford were upset by Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle, who have been drawn against Arne Slot’s Premier League leaders, Liverpool, in the fourth round.
Arsenal and Manchester United contested the glamour tie of the third round, with the Red Devils triumphing on penalties despite playing with ten men for over an hour. This sets up an intriguing clash against Leicester City next month.

When is the FA Cup Fourth Round?

Fans of England’s oldest cup competition will have to wait until February for its next instalment. The 16 fourth-round fixtures are set to be played across the weekend of Saturday, 8 February.
Similar to the third round, ties may be scheduled from Thursday to Monday. All ties will be concluded on the day they begin, with no replays following the removal of the away goals rule.
Will there be VAR in the 2024/25 FA Cup Fourth Round?

VAR can’t win. When the controversial refereeing system is in place, hours are wasted debating the decisions made by those at Stockley Park.
However, FA Cup referees will not have the assistance of VAR for the fourth round. In what feels like an arbitrary decision, video assistance will only be used starting from the fifth round of the competition.
