Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana is making progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury, offering hope to fans amid ongoing injury troubles within the squad.
Fofana Returns to Individual Training
Wesley Fofana is back on the training pitch after sustaining a hamstring injury in December. Initially, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca suggested Fofana might miss the rest of the season, but the defender himself disputed this prognosis.
Recent updates indicate that Fofana has resumed individual drills, running on grass as part of his recovery. The Daily Mail reports he could return to action before March, where he’ll face competition for his starting role from returning loanee Trevoh Chalobah.
Chelsea’s Injury Troubles Deepen
While Fofana’s progress is promising, Chelsea remain concerned about injuries to key midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia. Fernandez is expected to miss only a couple of weeks, according to The Athletic, but Lavia’s situation is more severe.
Since joining Chelsea in 2023, Lavia has been plagued by injuries, limiting him to just 13 appearances across all competitions. He missed almost the entirety of last season and could face an extended spell on the sidelines again.
To mitigate their midfield crisis, there are growing calls for Chelsea to recall either Andrey Santos or Lesley Ugochukwu from their loan spells at Strasbourg and Southampton.
