Real Madrid Dominate Mallorca but Feud Boils Over

Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory over Mallorca in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final was marred by a post-match brawl, with Vinicius Junior at the center of the controversy.

The Brazilian forward reignited his long-standing feud with Mallorca right-back Pablo Maffeo, who previously joked about being able to “knock out” Vinicius in a fight. The bad blood between the two spilled onto the pitch just minutes into the match.

Tensions Ignite Early

Maffeo shoved Vinicius during an early altercation, prompting the Madrid star to retaliate with a slap on Maffeo’s chest. The Mallorca defender fell theatrically, escalating tensions further. Cameras later caught Vinicius calling Maffeo “terrible” and vowing to eliminate Mallorca from the competition.

Despite the animosity, Madrid managed to maintain their composure on the pitch. Jude Bellingham opened the scoring in the second half, and an own goal coupled with Rodrygo’s late strike sealed the victory.

Post-Match Chaos

The heated exchange didn’t end at the final whistle. Maffeo’s reaction to Madrid’s third goal provoked responses from Jude Bellingham and Mallorca center-back Raul Asencio, sparking a mass brawl as the game concluded.

Footage from the tunnel showed Vinicius attempting to confront Mallorca players, requiring teammates and staff to physically restrain him.

Reactions from Both Camps

Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni downplayed Maffeo’s role, stating, “We’re not talking about him, it’s what he wants.”
Manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed disappointment with the incident, labeling it “unnecessary.”

“The game was already over, and this kind of fight doesn’t make sense,” Ancelotti told reporters. “The players were heated, but it wasn’t needed. I tried to calm things down with Maffeo, but nothing significant happened in the end.”

Looking Ahead

While Madrid secured their spot in the Super Cup final, the focus remains on the aftermath of the fiery encounter. Whether further disciplinary actions will follow remains to be seen.
