Can Guardiola Overcome City’s Struggles?
Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has voiced his support for Pep Guardiola, insisting that the Spanish coach is the only person capable of turning things around after a tough period for the club.
City’s recent FA Cup win over Leyton Orient was far from convincing, and they are currently 15 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool. They also face an extra Champions League play-off after failing to finish in the top eight of the competition’s new league phase.
With the club undergoing a rebuild, featuring signings like Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Nico Gonzalez, City are now fighting just to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Aguero: “Guardiola Is the Only One Who Can Fix This”

A Difficult Season for Manchester City
- City started the 2024/25 campaign strongly but suffered a dramatic dip in form, including a shock Carabao Cup exit to Tottenham in October.
- This poor run led to five consecutive defeats, and their Champions League loss to PSG and Premier League thrashing by Arsenal only added to their struggles.
- The squad is ageing, and Guardiola has already started a rebuilding process to prepare for the future.
Aguero’s Confidence in Guardiola
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Aguero acknowledged the difficulties but remains optimistic about Guardiola’s ability to turn things around:
“This year I think it will be very difficult [to win the Premier League]. They started very well but had a bad few weeks. In the Champions League, the objective is to go as far as possible. It is very hard. The objective should be to do as best as possible in the Premier League as well. But I think Guardiola is a very good coach and the only one who can change the situation. It won’t be easy.”
Guardiola’s Future at Manchester City
- Despite the dip in form, Guardiola signed a new two-year contract in November—the longest tenure he has ever had at a club.
- When asked if he feared for his job, Guardiola dismissed any concerns:
“I know in some stadiums they say that ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning,’ but I don’t have that feeling. Obviously, I am still here because of what we have won in previous seasons. If things don’t work, we’ll shake hands and move on, but I don’t think I’m going to be thrown out on the street.”
Can Manchester City Bounce Back?
With a demanding schedule ahead, can Guardiola steer City back to their winning ways, or will this be the season where their dominance fades?
