Ruben Amorim: I will not get time at Man Utd

Ruben Amorim has conceded he will “not get time” to slowly turn things around at Manchester United, admitting the pressure to succeed immediately is ramping up.

A run of two consecutive wins before the international break came to a halt on Tuesday as United were downed 1-0 by high-flying Nottingham Forest as former Red Devil Anthony Elanga netted the only goal of the game.

Defending United’s decision to part ways with Elanga in the summer of 2023, Amorim insisted the Red Devils cannot wait forever for anybody to come good, whether that be players or managers.

“We are talking about a lot of players who were at Manchester United who are doing right, but they had the chance here,” said Amorim as he referenced previous comments on Marcus Rashford and Antony’s success away from Old Trafford.

“At United, you don’t have the time. I will not have the time. We have to get it right fast.

“They were here and here the pressure is too big sometimes. Sometimes you don’t have time and you should have time for these kids to develop. For that you need a strong base. If you don’t have it, we are not going to help our kids. They had their chances and sometimes the pressure playing for Manchester United is really big.”

While Elanga was dazzling for Forest, United struggled on their own wings, with Alejandro Garnacho singled out by fans for criticism.

“He is making everything,” Amorim said of the Argentine. “He’s trying. Sometimes you have one day that you are doing the right things, but in the final third, you are not that good, that can happen.

“The most important thing for me is that when he needs to run back, he is running back. Of course we want a player that has one against one. Sometimes he is trying too much.

“I think he wants to help the team to do his best, sometimes he doesn’t make the best choice, but you cannot point to any player today.”
