Madrid Register Interest in Saliba
Real Madrid have reportedly made initial contact with representatives of Arsenal’s star defender William Saliba as they consider a potential transfer next summer. The French centre-back, regarded as one of the finest in the world, has been a cornerstone of Arsenal’s defense since returning from a loan spell at Marseille in 2022.
Saliba, 23, signed a contract extension with Arsenal until 2027, making him a key part of Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans. Despite his strong commitment to the Gunners, Real Madrid’s interest highlights his growing reputation as a world-class talent.
Saliba’s Impact at Arsenal

Saliba has been an ever-present figure in Arsenal’s backline, missing only one of the last 59 Premier League games. His combination of physical dominance and mental sharpness has transformed the Gunners’ defense. Arsenal’s title challenge last season faltered following his season-ending back injury, underlining his importance to the squad.
Madrid’s Defensive Dilemma
Real Madrid, led by Carlo Ancelotti, are in need of defensive reinforcements. Injuries to Eder Militao and David Alaba have forced midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni to fill in at centre-back alongside Antonio Rudiger. While Tchouameni has performed admirably, Madrid’s lack of depth has led to significant minutes for 21-year-old Raul Asencio.
Madrid are unlikely to make any defensive additions in January, focusing instead on summer targets like Saliba. Arsenal would demand a substantial transfer fee to part ways with their defensive talisman.
Alternative Targets
Real Madrid are also monitoring RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba, a younger and more affordable alternative to Saliba. However, Lukeba lacks the same proven quality and experience at the highest level.
