Maddison Attends Darts Match After Limited Game Time

  • Tottenham midfielder James Maddison attended the PDC World Darts Championship after missing the starting XI against Wolverhampton due to illness.
  • Maddison entered as a substitute in the 64th minute during Spurs’ 2-2 draw.
  • He was spotted at the Alexandra Palace alongside teammate Brennan Johnson.

Tottenham’s Challenging Season Continues

Injury-plagued Tottenham’s draw against Wolves saw goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Brennan Johnson, leaving the team in 11th place with 24 points from 19 matches. This marks Spurs’ lowest year-end position since the 2008-09 season.

Ange Postecoglou: “No Issues with Players Having Lives”

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou dismissed concerns about Maddison attending the darts event, emphasizing that it did not conflict with the midfielder’s recovery or professionalism.

“I’ve got no problem with the players having lives,” Postecoglou stated. “It’s different playing a game of football and enjoying life. Maddison wasn’t 100% for the game, but he was still fit enough to contribute.”

Postecoglou added that there might be an issue if Maddison had skipped the match entirely but said his actions were reasonable under the circumstances.

Luke Littler Makes Darts History

The PDC World Darts Championship concluded on Friday with a historic victory by 17-year-old Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler. Littler defeated Michael van Gerwen 7-3 to become the youngest PDC world champion.

Managing Maddison’s Fitness Key for Postecoglou

Despite some criticism, Postecoglou expressed satisfaction with Maddison, who has scored eight goals in 19 league appearances this season.

“The key with Madders is keeping him fit, healthy, and sharp,” Postecoglou explained. “That means not overloading him with every game, especially with our current schedule.”
