Young Danish Defender Excited for New Challenge
Manchester United’s latest signing, Patrick Dorgu, has opened up about the crucial role that new head coach Ruben Amorim played in convincing him to join the club.
Dorgu, a highly-rated left-sided defender, completed a £25 million move from Lecce, with additional add-ons included in the deal. The 20-year-old Denmark international was regarded as one of Serie A’s brightest young talents, having moved to Italy from Nordsjaelland at just 17.
“Amorim’s Playing Style Suits Me Perfectly”
In his first official interview as a Manchester United player, Dorgu expressed his admiration for the club and his excitement to work under Ruben Amorim.
“Manchester United is a huge club, the biggest in England,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to working with the new manager, Ruben. I feel his playing style will suit me very well, and I’ve heard only good things about him.”
Dorgu is expected to play a key role as a left-sided wing-back in Amorim’s tactical system, especially with Luke Shaw still recovering and Tyrell Malacia set for a loan move to PSV Eindhoven. His presence could also allow Diogo Dalot to shift back to his natural right-back position.
Dorgu’s Versatility Adds Tactical Flexibility
Although primarily a left-sided defender, Dorgu has also played as a right-back at Lecce, showcasing his versatility. His arrival provides Manchester United with much-needed depth and could even allow Shaw or Noussair Mazraoui to operate as a third centre-back, compensating for Lisandro Martinez’s season-ending injury.
The young defender is confident in his physical and mental strength, which he believes will be key to his success in England.
“I think I’m going to bring a lot of intensity and physique on the pitch. A lot of energy and running,” he explained. “Mindset is the most important thing in football. There’s a lot of talk around the game, and you need to be mentally strong to stay focused.”
Having already adapted to living alone in Italy, Dorgu believes his experiences have prepared him well for the challenge of playing in the Premier League.
