  • Arsenal fall six points behind Liverpool after a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa
  • Liverpool’s squad depth highlighted as a key advantage in title race
  • Arteta laments injuries and fatigue affecting Arsenal’s performance

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has voiced concerns about his squad’s depth after their 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, a result that saw the Gunners lose further ground in the Premier League title race.

Earlier in the day, Liverpool secured a dramatic 2-0 victory over Brentford, with substitute Darwin Nunez scoring twice in stoppage time—an example of the Reds’ ability to change games with their depth, something Arteta feels Arsenal currently lack.

“The subs made the impact, and [Liverpool] managed to change the game,” Arteta said. “On our side, it was the opposite. After conceding the two goals very close to each other, the danger was that we could go downhill because we were physically drained. But the team found another gear and kept pressing Villa, trying to score the winner.”

The Gunners were without key players Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and William Saliba, whose hamstring injury adds to Arsenal’s growing list of absentees. Defensive options are stretched thin with Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu also sidelined.

Arteta admitted his team’s lack of depth is a significant hurdle. “When you look at the bench, probably you say, ‘I think we are very short.’ This is a big concern for us,” he confessed.

Arsenal Eyeing Reinforcements

The Arsenal boss is reportedly prioritizing new signings to strengthen the squad. Among the targets is RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, with speculation of a potential January bid intensifying.

As the Gunners battle injuries and fatigue, Arteta’s plea for reinforcements highlights the urgency to bolster Arsenal’s title challenge before the winter transfer window closes.
