Man Utd Keen to Strengthen Forward Line
Manchester United are making a late push to sign either Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel or Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku before the transfer window closes.
Why Do United Need a Forward?
Following a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace, it has become evident that Ruben Amorim’s side needs attacking reinforcements. With Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling for form, Amorim experimented with Kobbie Mainoo as a false nine. However, this approach failed, and United are now actively looking for a new attacking option.
Marcus Rashford’s Loan Exit Creates Opportunity
The departure of Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa on loan has opened up space in United’s squad. Amorim reportedly sanctioned the move due to concerns over Rashford’s work ethic in training. This decision has increased the urgency for United to bring in a proven attacker.
Mathys Tel: Bayern Munich Negotiations Ongoing
United have been in discussions with Bayern Munich over a loan move for Mathys Tel, but negotiations have stalled. Bayern insist on an obligation-to-buy clause, which United are reluctant to accept.
Tel, 19, is eager for the move and has already rejected a £50m transfer to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month. Talks are expected to continue until the last moments of deadline day in an attempt to reach a compromise.
Christopher Nkunku: A Backup Plan for United
If a deal for Tel does not materialize, United could switch their focus to Christopher Nkunku. The French forward has struggled for consistent playing time at Chelsea, failing to displace Nicolas Jackson as the team’s starting striker.
Nkunku has also been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, but United are hoping to secure his services as an alternative to Tel. There is also speculation that Chelsea could use this opportunity to revive their interest in Alejandro Garnacho, potentially as part of a swap deal.
What’s Next for Garnacho?
Despite Chelsea’s interest, Garnacho appears to have secured his place in Amorim’s plans. The winger received public praise from his manager after responding positively to being dropped for the Manchester derby in December, which may make a move unlikely at this stage.
