Man Utd Eye Patrick Dorgu for Left-Back Role
Manchester United are actively pursuing Lecce star Patrick Dorgu to strengthen their left-back options. The 20-year-old Denmark international has emerged as a prime target, particularly as a deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes seems increasingly unlikely.
Dorgu has attracted interest from multiple top clubs, but United’s approach has intensified competition. Serie A giants Napoli are now reportedly in advanced negotiations to secure his transfer.
Napoli’s Plan for Dorgu
Napoli, who view Dorgu as more of a winger due to his versatility—he has played as a forward in 14 of his 22 appearances this season—are pushing for a €40m (£33.8m) deal. Their proposal includes leaving Dorgu on loan at Lecce until the end of the season to support his development.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Napoli are “very close” to finalizing the deal. However, Manchester United could still turn the tables by matching Napoli’s offer, as Dorgu has expressed a keen interest in moving to the Premier League.
Patrick Dorgu’s Premier League Aspirations
Dorgu, a self-proclaimed Chelsea fan, has admitted his dream of playing in the Premier League. While he has a strong connection to Chelsea, he has made it clear that he wouldn’t hesitate to join another English club if the opportunity arises.
Manchester United are expected to engage with Dorgu’s agent and other stakeholders in the coming days. The final decision on his future is anticipated before the January transfer window closes.
