Sporting CP Striker in High Demand
Manchester United’s pursuit of Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres could be influenced by a reported “friendship pact” between the Swedish striker and head coach Ruben Amorim. However, Arsenal are also in the race, with their newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta leading the charge.
Gyokeres has been one of Europe’s most prolific strikers this season, netting 85 goals in 92 appearances since joining Sporting in 2023. His rapid rise has put him on the radar of several top clubs, with both United and Arsenal viewing him as a potential game-changer for their attacking setups.
The ‘Friendship Pact’ with Amorim – A Key Factor?
Reports suggest that Gyokeres previously gave his word to Amorim, indicating a willingness to follow him to Manchester United if the opportunity arose. Their strong working relationship at Sporting could be a crucial factor in negotiations.
However, history suggests that personal ties alone may not be enough. United already missed out on Geovany Quenda, another former Amorim player, who opted for Chelsea instead of reuniting with his ex-coach at Old Trafford.
Arsenal’s Financial Edge in the Transfer Race
Arsenal, on the other hand, are wasting no time in their pursuit. Sky Sport Switzerland reports that the Gunners have already opened talks with Gyokeres’ camp and secured internal approval for the financial side of the deal.
The North London club’s ambition is clear, and with the possibility of Champions League football next season, they could offer Gyokeres a more attractive sporting project than a United side currently battling for a Europa League spot.
United’s Alternative Striker Options
While Gyokeres is a top target, Manchester United are also considering Hugo Ekitike and Liam Delap.
- Ekitike, a long-term United fan, could be a more cost-effective option, with PSG open to selling him this summer.
- Delap, currently at Ipswich Town, is another young talent United are monitoring, though his club remains firm on their valuation despite potential relegation.
With United’s transfer budget expected to be tight, the club must weigh whether to invest heavily in Gyokeres or spread resources across multiple young forwards for long-term stability.
Will Gyokeres Choose United or Arsenal?
The coming weeks will be crucial in determining Gyokeres’ next destination. Will his loyalty to Amorim sway him toward Old Trafford, or will Arsenal’s financial backing and sporting project prove too tempting to resist?
What do you think? Would Gyokeres be a better fit for United or Arsenal?
