Maguire & Ugarte Ruled Out as Injury Crisis Worsens
Manchester United’s injury problems continue to mount as Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte have been ruled out of the Europa League round of 16 first leg against Real Sociedad.
Both players sustained knocks during United’s FA Cup loss to Fulham, and their absence was confirmed when they were left out of the 18-man squad traveling to Spain.
Limited Squad Options for Ruben Amorim
Although UEFA allows teams to name 23 players in matchday squads, United are only taking 18 due to their ongoing injury crisis.
Alongside Maguire and Ugarte, United are also missing key players, including:
- Lisandro Martinez
- Luke Shaw
- Jonny Evans
- Mason Mount
- Amad Diallo
- Kobbie Mainoo
- Altay Bayindir
- Tom Heaton
Additionally, young striker Chido Obi is ineligible for the Europa League as he was not registered for the knockout rounds.
Toby Collyer Returns as a Rare Positive
One silver lining for United is the return of Toby Collyer, who had been out since January. His inclusion provides a slight boost to the depleted squad, but Ruben Amorim will still have very few options on the bench, with three of the five substitutes having made only 11 senior appearances combined.
