Nmecha has drawn comparisons to Jude Bellingham for his ability to score from deep positions. With two goals and an assist in just seven starts this season, his form has caught the attention of Premier League scouts. Representatives from Manchester United, Chelsea, and Newcastle United reportedly attended Dortmund’s recent clash against Bayern Munich, where Nmecha impressed in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
Homegrown Advantage for Premier League Move
One factor working in Nmecha’s favor is his status as a homegrown player. Having come through Manchester City’s academy, where he made three senior appearances, Nmecha qualifies under Premier League homegrown player rules. After being released in 2021, he rebuilt his career at VfL Wolfsburg, where he transitioned from an attacking midfielder to a box-to-box role, earning his move to Dortmund.

Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken praised Nmecha’s adaptability and development:
“We had in mind that he could become a number six one day. He has now taken these steps quickly under Nuri. He got his chance and then took it. In his form, with his size, his speed, he is a difference maker!”
