Ake Responds to Walker’s Transfer Request

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has admitted his surprise upon learning that teammate Kyle Walker is seeking to leave the Etihad Stadium. Walker, a key figure for City in recent years, reportedly wants to move abroad as he approaches the final stages of his career.

Pep Guardiola revealed the news following City’s emphatic 8-0 victory over Salford City in the FA Cup on Saturday. Speaking after the match, Guardiola addressed Walker’s absence from the squad, explaining:
“I prefer to play other players whose minds are here.”

Ake, who started as the senior centre-back in a youthful City lineup, expressed his admiration for Walker when asked about his teammate’s potential departure.

“He’s massive for us,” Ake told reporters. “He’s been massive for us over the years. This year as well, he’s a big character in the squad. He deserves a lot of praise for all the years he’s been a top player for this club.”

Leadership & Legacy

Kyle Walker has often worn the captain’s armband for City this season, and Ake highlighted his leadership qualities.

“It’s massive,” the Dutch defender said. “He’s a big player for us, a big character, and a good guy as well. I’m very good with him. Let’s see what happens. There’s no doubt he’s been a massive player for us.”

Walker has been an integral part of Manchester City’s success under Guardiola, and his departure would leave a significant void in the squad both on and off the pitch.

City’s Defensive Reinforcements

Manchester City appear to be preparing for Walker’s potential exit, with reports suggesting that the club is close to finalizing a £33.6m deal for Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov. Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis is also rumored to be on the verge of a move to the Etihad.

Ake, however, expressed full confidence in the club’s recruitment strategy.

“The club know what they’re doing,” he said. “They’re trying to help the team and trying to get us back to where we belong. Hopefully, if it happens, it will be good.”

Looking Ahead

While Walker’s decision to leave has come as a shock, Manchester City’s proactive approach to the January transfer window suggests they are already planning for life without the experienced right-back. For now, fans and teammates alike will await further updates on Walker’s future.
