Luka Modric has confirmed he has no plans to retire this summer and he wants to end his career on the books at Real Madrid.

Modric remains an elite midfield talent but, having turned 39 years old at the start of the season, has taken up more of a reserve role for his club in recent years as manager Carlo Ancelotti builds around the young core of Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.

One-year contract extensions have been common for Modric and, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Croatia international has his sights set on another 12 months at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In a recent interview with Telefoot, Modric confirmed he dreams of retiring with Madrid but insisted he has no plans to call time on his career at the end of the current season.

“Right now, I’m not thinking about retirement,” he explained. “But as I’ve always said, I would like to retire at Real Madrid, that would be a dream for me. We’ll see what happens.

“There’s still a lot of the season left, and I want to focus on what’s left, because there are a lot of games still to play. I’m in no rush to make a decision.”

Modric remains a core part of Ancelotti’s squad. This season, he has appeared 44 times across all competitions, including 11 starts in La Liga and six in the Champions League and often wearing the captain’s armband.

Reports have claimed Modric’s Madrid future could be dictated by his willingness to remain in a rotational role, but the veteran midfielder appears delighted to continue contributing in whatever capacity he can.
